What Inspired me in February?

February tends to be the most difficult month for me year after year. I think it’s because all of the holidays are over, it’s cold, it’s boring, and seasonal depression is a very real thing. Instead of sitting and moping, I wanted to stay inspired through the month of February. I want to keep myself going because it’ll make me feel better, so that’s what I tried to do! The following are things I did in February to keep me going:

  1. Find a gym buddy!

I found a gym buddy to go to the gym with me almost every day. It has gotten to the point where going to the gym alone isn’t such a challenge for me anymore because I feel so good when I know I got my workout in. Although, I know that not everyone can find a gym buddy. I didn’t have one for years. When I couldn’t make it to the gym, I did a home workout. I have said in some of my previous blog posts that I don’t feel as accomplished when I do a home workout, but I do them anyways and the truth is that I sweat a ton and they’re just as hard as a gym workout. Most importantly, I still feel good after a home workout.

2. Read a non-fiction book!

The book I have been reading is called Designing Your Life by Bill Burnett and Dave Evans. This book is a perfect winter read for me, especially in January and February. I have felt SO stuck this year so this book has offered me exercises to discover what area in my life needs more attention and how I can make changes when I’m not feeling satisfied with my life.

3. Listen to a podcast!

I have been listening to The Office Ladies for a fun listen. It’s Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey also known as Pam and Angela from The Office. I love the show so hearing the behind the scenes about it is so fun and always a mood booster.

Another podcast I love is the Rise podcast by Rachel Hollis. I love Rachel Hollis, she is such an inspiration. I love her books but the podcast is a nice weekly thing to listen to and get inspired. I tend to listen to it in the shower or in the car on my way to the gym.

Instead of a podcast you could also listen to audio books! Audible is an amazing app for that. You can find a lot of discount codes for it, too!

4. Meditate

Although I’m still not meditating as much as I would like to, I have been meditating a lot more. I have the Shine app which I like but I have been trying other apps, too. I’m currently using Shine and Sanvello. I like Sanvello because it allows me to track my mood and habits like how much coffee or water I drink. Although, I am going to try Headspace next. I like the voice of Headspace better, it is way more calming to me. I know it may sound strange, but the voice used for the apps can sometimes not be calming to me!

Overall, February was still a challenging month for my mental health. But, I tried not to settle into being sad and I tried to push through. I’m going to continue these habits through March and I can’t wait to share with you some new things I’m trying in March!
